Position Summary

The Pharmacy Technician position is responsible for assisting and facilitating pharmacy operations and other tasks as the Pharmacist deems necessary. The position is required to answer phones, ring up customers, type and process prescriptions, fill and label prescriptions, clean the pharmacy, and provide excellent customer service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Answer phone calls in an efficient, friendly manner and be able to prioritize and communicate information appropriately

Unpack, sticker and properly store inventory

Periodically examine inventory for expired, soon to be expired medications and quarantine appropriately

Analyze and predict medication inventory usage to maintain an adequate medication supply

Effectively purchase medications at most cost effective manner

Type prescriptions efficiently and accurately and be able to process through insurance appropriately. Must check for sufficient reimbursement for processed claims

Fill and label prescriptions accurately, safely, and expediently

Maintain automated filling machines and equipment according to proper procedure and protocol

Complies with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the state board of pharmacy

Maintains pharmacy cleanliness on a daily basis. This includes: taking out the trash, sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming

Check customers out for prescriptions and other over the counter items. Makes sure the correct medication is being received by the correct patient and the correct prices are being billed to customer. This also includes collecting signatures when needed

Process cash, credit card, and debit card payments accurately through POS system.

Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

Provides exceptional customer service

Produces delivery labels, prepares delivery packaging, and coordinates payment and delivery for patients

Maintains office supplies, packing supplies, front end inventory and any other supplies

Coordinate and facilitate insurance prior authorizations and TARS

Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

Able to use computers and technology at a proficient level

Ability to actively listen to customers and health care professionals

Strong ability to multitask and be accurate in all tasks

Ability to work weekends and alternate pharmacy locations

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
