JOB DESCRIPTION

The Staff Psychiatrist or Staff Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner has medical and psychiatric responsibility in collaboration with the Clinical Director for the clinical work at the outpatient mental health clinic within the center. She/he/they conducts diagnostic interviews, medication evaluations, prescribes medication, prepares reports and participates in diagnostic and treatment team conferences,

The Staff Psychiatrist or Staff Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is a part-time position, approximately 5 hours per week to start, reporting to the Clinic director.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Ø Conducts diagnostic evaluations and assessments of children and adolescents, and of parents when necessary, and prepares a detailed report of their findings that is placed in the client’s file and shared with clinical team

Ø Participates in diagnostic and treatment team conferences

Ø Prescribes medication when indicated

Ø Provides treatment, supervision, consultation, or teaching if indicated and time permits

Ø Provides emergency consultation, at least by phone

Ø Carries out administrative duties related to the above tasks, such as dictation, writing letters, etc.

Ø Demonstrates awareness of systemic oppression and its influence

Ø Develops effective relationships with a culturally responsive lens with individuals, families, and groups

Ø Applies knowledge of individual and cultural diversity in practice

Ø Pursues professional development about individual and cultural responsiveness

Ø Performs other duties as assigned by the Clinic Director

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIRED SKILLS

Ø Staff Psychiatrist:

o Medical degree required, either MD or DO

o New York State Medical License required

o Completion of approved 3-year residency in psychiatry

Ø Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner:

o Master’s Degree in Nursing with specialization in psychiatry

o New York State RN License required

o Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certificate required

Ø Certification or eligibility to be certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or Nursing

Ø Bilingual required: candidates with strong communication skills in both English and Spanish are highly desirable

Pay: $200.00 - $250.00 per hour
