About the ACT Team

The ACT Team provides intensive, community-based mental health treatment to adults living with serious mental illness, including:

Schizophrenia

Schizoaffective Disorder

Bipolar I Disorder

Major Depression with Psychotic Features

Co-occurring substance use disorders

Our team brings psychiatric, nursing, therapy, case management, peer support, and substance use treatment services directly to clients in the community, helping them achieve stability, independence, and meaningful recovery.

About the Role

As the ACT Team Psychiatrist/Prescriber, you will serve as the team's primary medical expert, providing psychiatric assessment, medication management, and clinical consultation while working closely with therapists, nurses, case managers, and peer support specialists.

Unlike traditional outpatient psychiatry, this role involves providing services in the field-including client homes, shelters, and community settings-allowing you to see the full picture of each individual's life and recovery journey.

You'll play a critical role in helping individuals who have historically struggled to engage in traditional treatment access the care they need.

What You'll Do

Clinical Services

Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and assessments

Diagnose and treat serious mental illness using evidence-based psychiatric practices

Develop and manage psychotropic medication regimens

Monitor treatment effectiveness, side effects, laboratory results, and overall health outcomes

Collaborate with clients using shared decision-making and person-centered treatment approaches

Provide psychiatric services in community-based settings

Participate in daily ACT team meetings and integrated treatment planning

Consult with nurses, therapists, case managers, and peer support specialists to coordinate care

Support clients experiencing psychiatric crises and provide emergency psychiatric consultation

Collaborate with hospitals, emergency departments, and crisis stabilization programs to ensure continuity of care

Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the Electronic Medical Record

Team Collaboration

Serve as the team's primary psychiatric consultant and medical authority

Provide guidance regarding psychiatric symptoms, medication management, and behavioral health interventions

Participate in quality improvement initiatives and fidelity reviews

Contribute to a recovery-oriented, trauma-informed culture of care

On-Call Responsibilities

Participate in after-hours psychiatric consultation and backup on-call coverage

Support clinical staff during psychiatric emergencies

Provide guidance regarding emergency medication interventions and crisis response

Qualifications

Required

Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)

Completion of an accredited Psychiatry Residency Program

Board Certification in Psychiatry through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN)

Current unrestricted Utah physician license

DEA Controlled Substance Registration

CPR/BLS Certification

Valid Driver's License and insurability

Ability and willingness to provide services in community-based settings

Preferred

Two or more years of post-residency experience

Experience in community mental health, public-sector psychiatry, or outpatient psychiatric care

Experience working with individuals experiencing serious mental illness

Experience treating co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders

Familiarity with Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) and buprenorphine prescribing

Addiction Psychiatry subspecialty certification

Mental Health Officer designation in Utah
