Lead Drupal Engineer

Core responsibilities

Design and implement new Drupal theme(s) for the primary site and the microsite system, working within the agency's brand guidelines

Architect the integration layer between Drupal and the embedded React/VueJS apps, preserving the existing partially decoupled model

Develop custom module, content type design, Views, REST/JSON:API endpoints, and hook implementations

Content migration, including redirect mapping and data integrity validation

Integrate Salesforce Marketing Cloud forms and Intercom chat into the Drupal front-end

Enforce WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility compliance across all front-end output

Use AI-assisted tooling (Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) to accelerate development cycles and hold the team to the same standard

Qualifications:

Drupal

5+ years of professional Drupal development, with Drupal 9 or 10 as the primary platform

Deep experience building custom themes using Twig, Sass/CSS, and the Drupal theme layer

Custom module development: hooks, plugins, services, event subscribers, form API

Drupal's content architecture: content types, taxonomies, paragraphs, entity reference, media library

REST/JSON:API and web services configuration in Drupal

Drupal migrations: Migration API, CSV/JSON source plugins, content transformation pipelines

Composer-based workflow, Drush, configuration management (config:export/import)

Drupal multisite or subdomain/microsite architecture

Front-end

Production-level React experience — building and debugging embedded apps, not just reading the code

Strong JavaScript/ES6+, with working knowledge of VueJS

CSS architecture at scale: BEM, component-level scoping, responsive/mobile-first layouts

Web accessibility implementation: ARIA, semantic HTML, keyboard navigation, WCAG 2.1 AA

SEO technical fundamentals: structured data, canonical tags, redirect strategy, Core Web Vitals

What a strong candidate looks like

You have shipped a Drupal 9 or 10 site with a custom theme, custom modules, and a content migration from a legacy system. You have worked with a React or VueJS front-end running alongside Drupal, not inside it. You have led or technically mentored at least two other engineers on a multi-month project. You have used AI coding tools enough to have a genuine opinion on where they save time and where they cause problems.

Pay: $130,000.00 - $200,000.00 per year
