The Senior Manager, Corporate Credit Officer role provides an exciting career opportunity to be part of BMO’s high-performing Enterprise Risk Management team, supporting BMO’s Insurance business. The portfolio spans a diversified range of investment products including largely investment grade issuers across corporate, structured, sovereign and financial sectors supporting the liability growth within BMO Insurance’s balance sheet.
Key responsibilities:
Support BMO Insurance’s Chief Credit Officer in the development of the enterprise credit risk framework both for internally and externally managed assets.
Working along with BMO Insurance investment management team provides independent, objective review and adjudication of credit related risks.
Multi-sector coverage includes investments in power, utilities & infrastructure; project finance; mining; oil & gas; diversified corporates and financial institutions corporate issues, providing challenging opportunities for individuals to enhance expertise across a range of multiple sectors and for career growth across the risk function. Additionally, investments are also geographically diverse across regions predominantly North America and Europe.
Support the credit framework for derivative counterparties, including approving counterparties, establishing exposure limits, and determination of collateralization requirements
Within delegated lending limits, actively engage with the BMO Insurance’s lines of business to ensure transactions are adjudicated within BMO Insurance’s and BMO’s risk appetite, credit policies and targeted portfolio metrics.
Ensures applicable BMO Insurance and/or BMO Corporate Policies, Corporate Standards, and Financing Guidelines are interpreted correctly by investment team members, and that investments meet BMO Insurance and BMO requirements to ensure the investment decision, execution and portfolio management processes function effectively.
In addition to leveraging strong technical skills, the role involves building constructive relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders across levels.
Supports broader BMO Wealth Management credit risk, counterparty risk, loan portfolio management, investments valuation and market-risk oversight topics as required by the Wealth Management CRO or BMO Senior Credit Officer.
Supports Wealth Management CRO on periodic analysis, effective challenge and reporting needs, including for quarterly PCL reporting, Risk Culture attestation, Compensation Plan reviews, Annual Strategic Plan reviews, Risk Identification and Risk Appetite updates, etc.
May network with industry contacts to gain competitive insights and best practices.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s in Business, Finance, Economics or a related discipline.
Credit experience originating or adjudicating one of more of mining, oil & gas, project finance or power, utilities & infrastructure, diversified or financial institution sectors would be an asset.
7-10 years’ experience in credit analysis, within banking, insurance, asset management, or rating agencies.
Expert knowledge of financial statements, cash flow analysis, and capital structures.
Expert knowledge of banking products & services.
Expert knowledge of industry trends and regulations, with expert knowledge of the insurance sector considered and asset.
Expert knowledge of credit portfolio management policies & procedures, and financing guidelines.
Seasoned expert with extensive industry knowledge.
Verbal & written communication skills - Expert.
Analytical and problem-solving skills - Expert.
Influence skills - Expert.
Collaboration & team skills; with a focus on cross-group collaboration - Expert.
Able to manage ambiguity.
Data driven decision making - Expert.
Comfortable working with Excel and PowerPoint – Intermediate.
Knowledge of Enterprise Risk Management, Risk Identification & Risk Appetite concepts would be a strong asset.

$86,000.00 - $160,000.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
