About the role

Overview The Human Resources Director is responsible for overseeing and administering all human resource functions at One Kalakaua Senior Living. This role ensures compliance with federal and State of Hawaii employment laws, supports organizational goals and promotes a positive, supportive and compliant workplace culture. The Human Resources Director serves as a strategic partner to leadership while providing day-to-day management of employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, benefits coordination, performance management, training, policy administration, workplace culture and HR operations.

Manager Duties

POLICIES & PROCEDURES. Ensure all policies and procedures are followed.

WORK SAFETY. Ensuring a safe work environment for all staff.

HIPAA. Ensuring confidentiality of resident information.

DOCUMENTATION. Ensuring documentation and records information are consistent, accurate and proper terminology is utilized. Enters pertinent data in the database as needed.

REPORTING. Ensuring resident needs, concerns, incidents, changes in condition and abuse are reported to the appropriate parties in a timely manner.

PLANNING. Shows foresight in recognizing problems and pulls together stakeholders to address. Establishes long-term (1-3 years) and short term (weeks to months) goals that align with key organizational strategies. Creates written plans to meet agency and department objectives. Demonstrates effective problem solving to address barriers to change. Monitor progress. Adheres to deadlines keeping self and others accountable to deliverables.

PROJECT/CHANGE MANAGEMENT. Initiates and drives changes to meet and exceeds the needs of the organization and/or residents/guests. Understands values/missions of organization and is committed to ensuring alignment within the team and across the organization. Engages staff in the change process. Communicates openly with stakeholders to understand needs and gain buy-in towards a shared culture of improvement. Escalates problems timely and appropriately. Functions in a collaborative manner.

CREATE AND UTILIZE MANAGEMENT TOOLS. Use existing tools such as shared calendars, room booking, meeting agendas and minutes, project plans and tracking system. Utilizes technology. Creates department specific Management Tools when needed and implements with staff successfully.

PROCESS AND/OR PRODUCTIVITY. Delegates and monitors the production of work for the team. Assigns staff opportunities to build skill and competency within the department to foster leadership development/succession planning. Helps employees maintain attention to quality, outcomes and timeliness of deliverables. Works independently and trains the team to do the same.

MENTORSHIP. Coaches for results and provides appropriate feedback, recognition and development opportunities to support team member's career growth and individual leadership capacity. Listens with intent to understand. Establishes shared goals with the individual and guides staff towards self reliance and accountability. Provides real time feedback and clarity on their strengths, opportunities and next steps. Mentors on technical, professional and interpersonal skill sets. Fosters collaboration within the department and across department lines.

HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT. Ensures smooth hiring and training through department onboarding and orientation. Effectively monitors employee performance. Conducts performance reviews and facilitates the HR processes appropriately (i.e. counseling/disciplinary actions, etc.). Encourages and supports employees in their career development. Identifies opportunities and implements action plans to address HR metrics (i.e. staff retention, team communication, etc.).

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT. Effectively manages budgets and financial spend downs. Identifies and implements cost savings/revenue generating programs. Utilizes cost management skills.

REGULATORY COMPLIANCE. Ensures compliance with agency policies/procedures as well as State/Federal and other governing bodies, funding sources and accreditation standards. Follow through and work collaboratively with HR to ensure that employees and processes are in compliance.

INTERDEPARTMENTAL COLLABORATION. Works well with other department mangers. Is a team player. Offers solutions to achieve shared objectives. Participates in process improvement of other departments. Fosters a culture of collaboration.

Essential Duties

EMPLOYEE RELATIONS. Provides support, including employee and management counseling and issues facilitation.

EMPLOYEE COMMUNICATIONS. Creates monthly/quarterly newsletters, updates employee bulletin board, ensures all legal notices are posted and disseminates benefit and other pertinent information.

RECRUITING AND HIRING. Prepares job advertisements, screens applicants, assist with interviewing and processes new hires.

EMPLOYEE BENEFITS. Assists in the development, administration, processing of payment and deductions of employee benefits. Provides assistance in submitting claims, serves as a liaison between employees and insurance carrier.

UNIFORMS. Purchases, distributes and manages employee uniforms.

EMPLOYEE ACTIVITIES AND PROGRAMS. Develops and coordinates activities creating a stimulating and positive work environment, encouraging the development of caring, committed, inspired, motivated and happy employees.

EMPLOYEE REQUIREMENTS. Monitors to ensure all required licenses, certifications, immunizations and all other requirements are current.

PERFORMANCE REVIEWS. Develops criteria, monitors and assists with the with the evaluation of employees. Assist managers, as needed, in documenting performance evaluations including disciplinary action.

DEPARTMENT POLICIES. Develops, reviews and updates department policies.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
