About the role

Are you ready to shape the future of global automation standards?

We are seeking a Software Standard Designer with deep expertise in Siemens S7-1500 and TIA Portal (PLC, Motion Control, HMI, Safety) to own and continuously improve the Global Automation Standard. This role ensures technical continuity, supports Tissue Converting Machine logic conversions, delivers advanced troubleshooting, and coordinates effectively with cross-functional and international stakeholders. Experience with Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles, Rockwell automation and safety software design is a strong plus.

Key Responsibilities

Global Automation Standard Ownership

Act as the technical owner of the Global Automation Standard for Siemens-based automation solutions for Tissue Converting applications.

Maintain and evolve standard architectures, libraries, templates, naming conventions, and coding guidelines across PLC, Motion, HMI, and Safety.

Ensure standard governance: versioning, change control, documentation quality, and release communication.

Logic Conversion & Standardization Support

Support and lead machine logic conversions (legacy to standard), including refactoring and alignment to global guidelines.

Define and execute migration strategies for PLC programs, HMI screens, safety logic, motion control configurations, and related documentation.

Provide technical direction and coaching to engineering teams to accelerate adoption of the standard.

Provide standard documentation for world wide range technicians and other technical offices.

Continuous improvement: turns field issues into stronger standards and better tools.

Standard ownership mindset: disciplined approach to governance, documentation, and version control.

Advanced Troubleshooting & Technical Support

Deliver expert-level troubleshooting for complex automation issues across PLC/Motion/HMI/Safety.

Perform root cause analysis (RCA), propose corrective/preventive actions, and document learnings into standards and best practices.

Support commissioning and ramp-up phases when required (remote and/or on-site).

Cross-Functional & International Coordination

Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, process, quality, cybersecurity/IT (if applicable), and production teams.

Align with global stakeholders across regions/sites to ensure consistent implementation and continuous improvement.

Communicate technical decisions clearly through design reviews, technical workshops, and standard rollout initiatives.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

Ensure solutions comply with internal requirements and applicable safety and engineering standards.

Promote robust safety software design practices and contribute to safe, maintainable automation solutions.

Required Qualifications

Proven experience in industrial automation engineering, with senior-level ownership of standards, platforms, or frameworks.

Strong hands-on expertise with Siemens S7-1500 and TIA Portal.

Solid background in PLC programming (structured design, reusable libraries).

Experience with motion control configuration and troubleshooting.

Experience with HMI development within the Siemens ecosystem.

Experience with safety programming (Siemens safety environment; safety lifecycle awareness).

Demonstrated ability to work across multiple stakeholders and influence technical direction globally.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to perform structured RCA and drive improvements.

Fluent English & Italian (spoken and written); ability to operate effectively in an international environment is preferred.

Nice-to-Have

Experience in Tissue Converting machinery and/ or industry

Experience applying Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts in PLC software design (e.g., modular architectures, interfaces, encapsulation).

Rockwell Automation product portfolio is a plus.

Strong background in safety software architecture (fail-safe patterns, maintainable and testable safety logic).

Experience with standardized software frameworks, template-based deployments, and code quality practices (reviews, reusable libraries).

Exposure to global/multi-site engineering operations and governance models.
