This role sits within the Legal & Assurance Service in the Customer & Support Services Directorate at Cornwall Council.

As part of a proactive, customer-focused team, you will help ensure that the Council maintains high standards of governance, risk management and internal control, contributing to continuous improvement across the organisation.
The Role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a forward thinking, enthusiastic and skilled Principal Auditor within our Audit team. Our Internal Audit function provides assurance and consultancy services to Cornwall Council, Corserv Ltd, Cornwall Housing Limited, Treveth LLP, Council of the Isles of Scilly and a number of Academy Trusts. We are seeking to appoint an individual who is self-motivated and enthusiastic.
You will be responsible for delivering the risk based internal audit plan, plus providing consultancy and advisory activities that drive positive change within the Council providing assurance to our stakeholders / clients. You will have critical analysis and problem-solving skills, and provide clear and concise advice on governance, risk and control. The role would give you the opportunity to make a difference by providing advice and assistance to Senior Managers, and by highlighting areas to improve governance, internal control, financial management and risk management arrangements.
This is a public/customer-facing role, where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies.
This position will be subject to an enhanced criminal record disclosure check.
Working Pattern:
This is a full time position and whilst the location/work-base for this role has been specified our evolving ways of working means that the role may allow you to also work remotely (e.g. from home/other locations). We will discuss this with you during the recruitment process.
What you’ll need to succeed:
The ideal candidate will have achieved a professional qualification (CCAB/CMIIA), have a sound audit background at a senior level, and be able to perform complex audit work to a high standard. A good understanding of current best audit practice is essential.
