Agilent enables customers to gain the answers and insights they seek - so they can do what they do best: improve the world around us. Information about Agilent is available at www.agilent.com.
This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys working across software and hardware, and is interested in evolving towards modern embedded platforms.
Are you our new LabVIEW Software Engineer? We are looking for an additional permanent member of our team to develop software for Agilent’s Raman Spectroscopy products. The position will be based at our Harwell office near Oxford in the United Kingdom, with options for hybrid working. You will be working as part of a cross-functional R&D and product development team to develop high-quality software and products for our Pharmaceutical and Field Detection markets - delivering trusted answers, differentiated workflows and a common Agilent user experience.
As a LabVIEW Software Engineer, you will join a team of around 10 (full-time employees and contractors), certified as an NI Centre of Excellence, to demonstrate our ability as a world-class software team as part of the larger R&D function that includes hardware development, data science, optics, software quality and marketing. You will be developing software as part of a team using Agile methodologies to meet customer requirements, with a high-level of quality and consideration for regulatory and product security requirements.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced LabVIEW Software Engineer to work with a premier LabVIEW software team developing products making a difference in the world - from airport security screening and pharmaceutical quality control to hazardous chemical identification! You will contribute across the full development lifecycle, and adapt to new technologies and platforms.
We are in the early stages of evolving towards next-generation platforms which include embedded Linux and Rust/C++ software components, and are looking for someone interested in contributing to this transition. While LabVIEW remains central to our current products, we are actively investing in modernising our software platforms and expanding into new technologies.

Working on new products, product improvement projects and supporting/maintaining existing products to add new features and address defects
Follow our Agile software development process using Jira for implementing new features and resolving defects across our portfolio of products
Work with the wider cross-functional team to define requirements, troubleshoot software & hardware integration issues and work with software quality team on software testing
Ensuring code is maintainable – writing good software documentation and writing unit tests
Contribute to our continuous improvement activities, internal user group and ongoing learning and development
Ensuring software meets regulatory (pharmaceutical or government) and product security requirements
Contribute to the development of our next generation product architecture - likely to be based on Embedded Linux with a Rust/C++.
We are particularly interested in engineers who:
Have strong LabVIEW fundamentals and enjoy working with hardware-integrated systems
Are curious and willing to learn new technologies (e.g. embedded Linux, C++/Rust)
Can work independently on well-defined problems while collaborating closely with a multi-disciplinary team
This position is based in Harwell, Oxford (UK) with the flexibility to work on a hybrid model (3 days in the office, 2 days from home). You will report to the R&D Software Manager (LabVIEW).
