About the Role: We are seeking an experienced Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to serve as a strategic advisor to firm leadership and employees across multiple practice groups and business functions. This role will partner closely with attorneys, department leaders, and firm management to align people strategies with business objectives while fostering a high-performing, engaged, and collaborative workplace culture.

The HRBP will provide guidance on employee relations, performance management, workforce planning, organizational development, talent management, and employee engagement initiatives. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver who thrives in a professional services environment and enjoys building strong relationships across all levels of the organization.

About the Company: We are a mid-sized law firm located in New Brunswick, New Jersey, with satellite offices in Hammonton, Red Bank, and New York City. With over 100 employees, including more than 60 attorneys, we serve as approved counsel for numerous major insurance carriers and maintain a strong focus on complex civil litigation while offering a broad range of legal services.

HRBP Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Partnership & Workforce Planning

Partner with firm leadership to develop and implement people strategies that support business objectives and growth initiatives.

Analyze workforce trends and HR metrics to identify opportunities and support data-driven decision-making.

Serve as a trusted advisor on employee and organizational matters.

Employee Relations & Performance Management

Provide coaching and guidance to managers regarding employee performance, accountability, conflict resolution, and disciplinary matters.

Support the administration of performance management processes, goal setting, and employee development planning.

Conduct and assist with workplace investigations and employee relations matters.

Promote a positive and inclusive workplace culture through proactive employee engagement initiatives.

Talent Development & Organizational Effectiveness

Partner with leaders to identify training and development needs across attorney and staff populations.

Support leadership development initiatives and management coaching programs.

Assist with succession planning and career development strategies.

Drive initiatives that enhance employee engagement, retention, and overall organizational effectiveness.

HR Compliance & Policy Guidance

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.

Provide guidance on HR policies, procedures, leave administration, accommodations, and workplace practices.

Assist in maintaining and updating employee handbook policies and HR documentation.

Partner with firm leadership to mitigate employment-related risks.

Culture & Employee Experience

Champion initiatives that strengthen employee engagement and workplace culture.

Support firm-sponsored events, recognition programs, and employee wellness initiatives.

Serve as an accessible and visible HR resource for attorneys and staff.

Foster strong relationships across all offices and practice groups.

HRBP Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.

SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification preferred.

5+ years of progressive Human Resources experience, including experience as an HR Business Partner, HR Manager, or similar role.

Prior law firm or professional services experience strongly preferred.

Strong knowledge of employment laws, employee relations, and HR best practices.

Experience partnering directly with business leaders on workforce and organizational initiatives.

Excellent communication, relationship-building, and influencing skills.

Strong conflict resolution, problem-solving, and coaching abilities.

High level of discretion and professionalism.

Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
