About the role

The Company

About Medal

Medal is the world’s largest and fastest-growing platform for gaming clips, where millions of gamers capture, share, and relive their best moments. Every year, our players record billions of clips, each representing a unique, action-packed highlight. We’re building the next generation of gaming communities - social, monetized, and creator-powered. Our mission is to design products that make sharing, discovering, and connecting around gaming moments seamless and fun.

We raised a seed round of $133M from General Catalyst and Khosla to discover the next generation of intelligence.

The Role

We're looking for a Senior/Lead iOS Engineer to take our mobile app to the next level. You'll join a small, talented team of engineers and designers to craft the Medal experience on iOS: from real-time recording and clipping to social feeds, content discovery, and chat. You'll help shape our mobile architecture, influence product direction, and ship experiences seen by millions of gamers.

We move fast! An idea pitched on Monday can be in users' hands two or three weeks later. Ex: Stickers went from concept to launch in that window, and that's the rhythm we want to keep. If you love shipping polished mobile experiences, are obsessed with performance and user interaction, and want to work on a product that lives at the intersection of social and gaming, this is for you.

You Will

Own major parts of the iOS codebase and contribute to architecture decisions

Build and optimize video-heavy features used by millions of gamers, including recording, clipping, playback, and the social feed

Tackle ongoing performance work: reducing stutter, improving frame rates, and navigating iOS sandboxing challenges around media capture

Collaborate cross-functionally with design, backend, and product to ship fast without sacrificing quality

Advocate for user experience, performance, and accessibility

Help uphold a high bar for code quality and engineering culture

Stay on top of iOS best practices and help us keep the tech stack modern and efficient

Work on-site at our NYC office 5 days a week

You Need

5+ years of recent experience shipping iOS apps (recency matters, since the platform evolves fast)

Swift, UIKit, and SwiftUI knowledge

Swift Concurrency and Combine experience

AVFoundation experience or other hands-on work with video and audio on mobile

Experience working on complex real-time apps, video/media-heavy workflows, or social applications

An ownership mentality and a track record of driving projects end-to-end, not just shipping discrete components

Obsession with quality of code and interfaces

Interest in product and taking ownership of broad product areas (likes to run experiments, talk to users, and use the product avidly)

Practiced at using analytics, testing, user feedback, bug, and crash reports to inform app development

Experience using REST APIs and working with backend teams to accomplish product goals

A love for gaming, however you define it!

You read and write well and can communicate and collaborate both synchronously and asynchronously

Bonus Points

Experience working with video on mobile at a consumer-facing company

History as a Medal user, if so, be sure to share a clip or your profile!

Knowledge of Android development

Experience with other Apple technologies such as Objective-C, iPadOS, macOS, etc.

CI/CD experience (we use Xcode Cloud, but any CI background translates)

iOS Stack

Swift, SwiftUI, UIKit, Swift Concurrency, Combine, AVFoundation, Xcode Cloud, Amplitude, Proxyman, Figma, Linear

Benefits

Competitive salary and meaningful equity

Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage

401(k)

Wellness and fitness perks including a Wellhub membership and mental health resources

Paid parental leave, fertility and maternal health benefits

Generous PTO policy

Daily meals and commuter benefits at our NYC HQ in Flatiron

Learning and development stipend

Benefits vary by country and employment type.

Why Join Us

At Medal, you'll have the autonomy to make an impact from Day 1. The mobile team operates with independence and fast approval cycles, so if you see something worth building or fixing, you can usually just go do it. You'll join a team that values humility, curiosity, and momentum, and you'll help shape the future of how gamers share and connect around the moments that matter most.
