What You’ll Do:
The Electric Reliability Engineer is responsible for supporting the overall reliability of electrical systems across Northland Power’s North American operating fleet. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will also provide expertise on electrical systems to interfacing groups including SCADA/Operations Performance, Market Operations, Commercial Operations, and IT/OT.
Travel to sites within Canada and internationally will be required.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain equipment and facility ratings documents and databases.
Support protective relay system maintenance, relay settings databases, and calculations.
Coordinate with external engineering firms and contractors for the preparation of test plans, testing, and generating unit dynamic models and performance validation.
Oversee and review contractor engineering studies that pertain to relay settings development, coordination, and arc flash.
Train and communicate with generating station personnel.
Facilitate NERC and regional reliability compliance programs.
Support capital work and outage planning.
Establish and further develop maintenance best practices for electrical systems.
Review test reports and recommend corrective actions.
Supervise the work of contractors on site.
Participate in troubleshooting and root cause analysis.

Qualifications and Experience
Post-secondary degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Energy Systems Engineering, or related discipline.
Valid G class driver’s license.
Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills.
Theoretical and practical understanding of reliability engineering best practices applicable to power generation.
Working knowledge of electrical power systems and equipment as well as wind, solar, and thermal energy generation. Familiarity with competitive deregulated electricity markets in North America is a great asset.

Pay Range:
$86,400.00 - $108,000.00
