WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Within the Analytics Engineering team, we are looking for like-minded people that we would like to work with. We are not looking for a specific type of professional. We all come from very different cultural and educational backgrounds. We love this diversity, and we built an inclusive culture around it. We do not judge, instead, we care about and support each other. We share a genuine curiosity about what we do, and together we get better at it every day. We look for people with this mindset before anything else. The Analytics Engineer is part of the central data platform team and reports to the Data Platform Lead. The Analytics Engineer works closely with the Data Engineers, the Data Governance Specialist, and the Data Stewards from the domains. During the Foundation and Operationalization phases, the Analytics Engineer temporarily fulfills the steward role for departments that do not yet have their own Data Steward.

Responsibilities and tasks

Designing and building data transformations that convert raw data from the platform into semantic datasets and data products

Developing reports, dashboards, and analytical datasets in collaboration with Data Stewards and business users

Translating content-related questions from the business into technical data products in collaboration with the Data Steward of the relevant domain

Contributing to the business glossary in Microsoft Purview, particularly regarding the definitions resulting from transformations

Documenting datasets and data products in a manner accessible to business users

Performing acceptance tests on data deliveries together with the Data Owner and requester

Contributing to data quality incidents as described in process 3 of the TOM, particularly regarding reports arising from transformations or data products

Participating in the agile working method of the team

Contribute to code reviews and quality assurance of the work of fellow engineers

Mandate and authority

Decide on the technical implementation of transformations within the architectural frameworks and in consultation with the Data Platform Lead

Advises Data Stewards and Data Owners on the technical feasibility and suitability of requests from the business

Temporarily holds the mandate of Data Steward for departments without their own Steward, including the associated responsibilities as described in section 2.6 and the RACI matrix of the TOM. Collaborative Relationships

Daily with other Analytics Engineers, Data Engineers, and the Data Platform Lead

Regular with Data Stewards from the domains being built

Regular with the Data Governance Specialist (alignment regarding definitions and metadata)

During the temporary steward role: regularly with the relevant Data Owner and with employees within the domain

Periodically with business requesters for large or complex requests

Time Commitment

Full-time position (1 FTE). The distribution between regular Analytics Engineer duties and the temporary steward role depends on the number of departments without their own Steward. In the Foundation phase, up to 30 percent of the time is expected to be spent on the temporary steward role, decreasing as more departments appoint their own Steward.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

As an Analytics Engineer, you are the one who converts raw data into something the business can actually work with. You will work in a team of five data specialists and maintain continuous contact with colleagues from the business to understand their information needs and translate them into concrete data products.

Your responsibilities include, among others:

Contributing ideas regarding architectural coherence and identifying technical debt

Designing and building data transformations that convert raw data into usable datasets and reports

Translating business requirements into technical data products in collaboration with the Data Stewards from the domains

Building reports and analytical datasets that assist in operational and strategic decision-making within ZLM

Temporarily fulfilling a steward role for departments that have not yet appointed their own Data Steward, acting as the bridge between that department and the data platform

Documenting what you build in a way that is understandable to both fellow engineers and business users

Working in an agile team where shared quality and delivery come first
