About the Role (your why)
The Senior Solution Architect plays a pivotal role in the presales and project delivery of solutions in Datacom’s Managed Operations line of business. The focus will be on business outcomes that can be realised by scoping projects which transform and mature our customers’ IT environments and improve the overall end user experience/risk posture/service delivery. A strong commercial and pricing acumen is required to provide competitive services whilst ensuring Datacom’s profitability.
The Senior Solution Architect will work with a wide customer base ranging from 150 to 60,000 seats across both public and private sectors and industries (including Health, Transport, Services, Finance, Infrastructure, and Government). They will leverage expert technical knowledge of Datacom’s Managed Operations products and service offerings to develop statements of work, prepare bids, and support presales activities.
Our offices are based in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney. We like to bring people together in person when we can, but we are mindful of the benefits of working from home for work/ life balance. We therefore leave it to you and the team you join to figure out what works best!
Please note, you must be an Australian Citizen and be able to achieve Australian Government Baseline clearance to be successful in your application for this role.
What you’ll do
As the Senior Solution Architect will be a point of escalation and provide mentoring and coaching to other architects and engineers throughout the organisation. The core objectives and responsibilities are broken down into the following areas:
Managed Operations Presales Pipeline and Project Opportunities
Managed Services Renewals support
Managed Services Bid responses
Personal Training and Development
Vendor Engagement
General Expectations
The following provides an overview of the products and solutions which we are seeking competence in (but not limited to):
MS Automation and productivity tools such as PowerApps, Power Automate, etc
Microsoft Identity and Access Management systems (AD, Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD), Entra Connect, AD FS, Entra Domain Services, Azure MFA, Conditional Access, PIM, PAM and MIM).
Core Microsoft Supporting Infrastructure services (DHCP, DNS, PKI, Group Policy, Print Services, File Services, Exchange, SharePoint)
Modern Business Collaboration tools in the Microsoft 365 suite – Teams, Planner, Groups, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams Voice, Direct Routing etc.
Collaboration and Video conferencing solutions such as Teams, and ancillary systems like Poly, StarLeaf, Cisco and Zoom.
Enterprise mobility and endpoint management solutions such as SCCM, Intune, BigFix, Jamf, Workspace ONE and Google Admin.
Microsoft Windows end user operating systems configuration & deployment (in both traditional and modern management approaches).
M365 security, backup and archive technologies (Microsoft’s Defender for Endpoint, Defender for Office 365, Defender for Identity, Defender for Cloud, Defender for IoT, Microsoft Purview and Microsoft Priva)
Working knowledge of Microsoft supplementing competitor solutions such as Mimecast, AvePoint, Aternity, Carbon Black and Airlock Digital.
A strong understanding of VDI and DaaS solutions including VMware Horizon, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, Amazon WorkSpaces, Azure Virtual Desktop and Windows 365.
Public cloud exposure such as Azure, AWS and/or GCP, as well as background in traditional on-premises hosting technologies (vCenter and/or Hyper-V) and supporting hybrid cloud technologies.
Strong experience with M365 ‘on-premises to cloud’ and ‘cloud to cloud’ migration paths using native Microsoft tools and third-party tools such as AvePoint Fly, SkyKick and BitTitan.
Enterprise data backup, recovery and replication solutions such as Veeam, NetBackup, Commvault, Rubrik, Zerto and DataMasque.
Enterprise storage solutions from Dell, Lenovo, NetApp, HPE, Nutanix and Wasabi.
Hyperconverged Infrastructure Platforms from Nutanix, Dell, HPE and Azure Local.
Oracle hosting, platform and workload management solutions such as iSeries, Oracle Cloud and associated management tooling.
Linux and Unix OS such as Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, Arch Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris and openSUSE
Database solutions such as MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQLite.
Middleware solutions such as Red Hat OpenShift, Oracle Fusion, Kubernetes and IBM WebSphere.

What you’ll bring
Extensive experience designing, installing and/or supporting Microsoft, Oracle or VMware solution offerings
Over 5 years’ scoping and pricing managed services engagements
Over 5 years’ presenting solutions and service offerings to customers
Demonstrable history of creating high quality SORs, SOWs, HLDs and proposals for customers who outsource their IT
Strong understanding of Fixed Price vs Time & Materials SOW’s (and when to choose one over the other)
Strong understanding of pricing project and managed services engagements
Good working knowledge of:
Enterprise mobile management solutions
Enterprise desktop and server management solutions
Enterprise cloud solutions
Hardware lifecycle management
Software lifecycle management
Identity lifecycle management
Security lifecycle management
Sales and Project lifecycles
Extensive knowledge of the following technologies:
Windows Desktop OS
Windows Server OS
Microsoft Infrastructure
Microsoft Teams Voice
Microsoft Email

Extensive knowledge of hybrid cloud and native cloud environments

Good understanding of industry recognised security frameworks and solutions
Sound understanding of networking technologies and solutions
Commercially minded with instinctive revenue-growth orientation
