While our preferred location for this role is Hamburg, we are also open to considering candidates for our London office. Please note that local employment conditions and benefit structures may vary depending on the location.
Here’s what you can look forward to:
As a Financial Business Partner / Controller (m/f/d), you will act as a key interface between Marketing, Finance, and Risk Management, supporting the financial steering of our international marketing business. Working closely with various business units and regions, you will analyze performance drivers, create transparency around profitability, and contribute to informed business decision-making.
In this role, you combine commercial understanding with strong financial expertise and confidently navigate complex reporting structures, different accounting standards, and operational performance management. Your tasks in a nutshell:
Analyze performance: You analyze P&Ls across our marketing activities, evaluating margin developments, variances, and key financial performance drivers.
Bridge accounting concepts: You bring a sound understanding of mark-to-market accounting and accrual accounting principles and support the interpretation of commercial and financial data across both perspectives.
Support financial close activities: You contribute to monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes, supporting accruals, adjustments, and reporting activities.
Manage risks: You identify financial and operational risks, strengthen control mechanisms, and support both internal and external audits.
Advise stakeholders: You work closely with Marketing, Finance, and Risk teams, translating complex financial topics into clear and actionable insights for different stakeholders. You go beyond presenting information by deriving recommendations, acting as a trusted sparring partner, and supporting commercial decision-making through data-driven insights.
What helps you to fulfill this role:
Education: A completed degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
Professional experience: Several years of experience in Financial Controlling, Product Control, or Commercial Finance – ideally within the energy, commodity, or industrial sector.
Technical expertise: Good knowledge of German GAAP and mark-to-market accounting concepts, as well as a general awareness of IFRS. Experience with complex reporting and consolidation structures is an advantage.
Industry knowledge: Knowledge of the marketing and downstream value chain within the oil & gas industry is considered an advantage.
Systems skills: Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems such as SAP; PowerPoint skills and knowledge of Power BI or other reporting/visualization tools are a plus.
Languages: Excellent written and spoken English skills; German is a plus.
With these characteristics, you fit perfectly with us:
Analytical mindset: You quickly identify connections, work in a structured manner, and derive well-founded recommendations for action.
Strong communication skills: You can explain complex financial topics in a clear and understandable way and confidently collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders.
Ownership mentality: You take responsibility, challenge existing processes, and proactively contribute your own ideas.
Dynamic and pragmatic approach: You thrive in an international and fast-paced environment and maintain a clear overview even in complex situations.
Even if you do not fulfil all of the above requirements, we encourage you to apply if you believe your experience will add value to our team.
Our offer to you:
Work-life balance: 38.75 working hours per week with 30 days annual leave
Ability to work freely: flexible working hours and individual remote work arrangement
Remuneration and additional benefits: Profit sharing, 13 salaries, holiday pay, travel allowance, etc
