It takes an entire team of passionate and caring people, united in our mission to put the senior first. We have built a team of talented and experienced people who are passionate about transforming the lives of the seniors we serve. In this fast-growing company, you will find ample room for growth and innovation alongside the Alignment Health community. Working at Alignment Health provides an opportunity to do work that really matters, not only changing lives but saving them. Together.

The Senior Tax Analyst is a key contributor to the finance organization of a mission-driven Medicare Advantage health insurance company, responsible for ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely execution of the organization's federal, state, and local tax obligations. This role sits at the intersection of technical tax expertise and healthcare industry nuance, partnering closely with Accounting, FP&A, Legal, and Operations to deliver tax-related insights that support sound business decisions. The Senior Tax Analyst directly influences the organization's financial integrity by managing income tax provisions under ASC 740, preparing multi-jurisdictional tax filings, and serving as a primary point of contact for regulatory inquiries and audit responses. This role is critical to the organization's ability to operate with regulatory confidence in a highly regulated sector, and offers high visibility, meaningful cross-functional impact, and the opportunity to grow within a rapidly expanding Medicare Advantage enterprise.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Drive Tax Compliance Across All Jurisdictions

Lead the end-to-end preparation and review of federal, state, and local tax filings, including income, franchise, and insurance premium tax returns specific to Medicare Advantage plan operations. Manage the tax compliance calendar with precision, ensuring all estimated payment deadlines, extension filings, and statutory obligations are met without disruption to the organization's financial close cycle. Support external tax advisors and auditors with required documentation and analysis.

2. Deliver Accurate Tax Provisions & Financial Reporting

Prepare and review quarterly and annual income tax provisions in accordance with ASC 740, ensuring accuracy across deferred tax asset and liability calculations, effective tax rate analysis, and financial statement disclosures. Maintain complete and well-organized tax provision workpapers and supporting documentation that meet both internal control standards and external audit requirements. Assist external tax advisors and auditors with required documentation and analysis.

3. Manage Audit Defense & Regulatory Inquiries

Serve as the primary operational lead in responding to tax notices, audits, and inquiries from federal and state tax authorities, drafting technically sound and timely responses in coordination with external advisors. Track all open correspondence and audit activity to ensure disciplined resolution management and no lapsed response obligations.

5. Collaborate Cross-Functionally as a Trusted Tax Advisor

Partner with Accounting, FP&A, Legal, and Operations to gather data, assess tax implications of business initiatives, and deliver guidance that helps the broader organization make well-informed decisions. Support data requests related to Medicare Advantage operations, including those tied to regulatory filings, enrollment reconciliations, and financial audits.

6. Conduct Tax Research & Monitor Legislative Developments

Research current and emerging tax legislation, IRS guidance, and state law changes that may affect the organization's tax obligations or strategic positioning, translating complex developments into actionable summaries for finance and executive leadership. Coordinate with external tax advisors on technical positions, ruling requests, and complex issues that require specialized counsel.

7. Strengthen Tax Processes, Controls & Technology

Identify and implement opportunities to improve the efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of tax compliance workflows, including automation enhancements within tax software and ERP systems such as OneSource, CorpTax, Oracle, and Workday. Maintain organized, audit-ready records and support SOX internal control compliance where applicable.
