Purpose
We are looking for an experienced professional to help us to evidence the impact and outcomes of environmental science and to land that evidence with key audiences. The role would suit someone with a strong ability to synthesise evidence and communicate it clearly, who is motivated by seeing research make a real-world difference.
The UK’s world-leading environmental science is central to enabling the UK to grasp green growth opportunities and to address global challenges such as climate change. Effectively communicating to key stakeholders how environmental science makes a difference to the economy and our lives will help us to make the case for funding (Spending Review and funding bids), report on our performance, build partnerships to deliver research and impact, shape strategy and celebrate success.
The Impact and Outcomes Manager develops and curates evidence that demonstrates how UKRI environmental science delivers impacts and outcomes that support UKRI’s mission to advance knowledge, improve lives and drive growth. The role also involves supporting work to land the evidence effectively with target audiences including UKRI leadership, DSIT, partner organisations and the UK environmental research community.
NERC has an established Impact and Outcomes team skilled in producing impact and outcomes evidence , and an extensive database of existing evidence. The role is predominantly desk-based, working as part of a strong, established and collaborative team and with scope to take ownership of specific workstreams.
Responsibilities
Investigate and analyse impact and outcomes information to generate new evidence of how UKRI environmental science makes a difference. Includes synthesising existing evidence such as case studies and research outcomes information from grantholders, and developing new evidence through desk research and interviewing researchers
Present the evidence in clear, succinct and accessible formats tailored to the needs of key audiences including UKRI leadership, DSIT, and government and business partners
Gather evidence for the team’s fortnightly communication of recent outcomes from UKRI environmental science by tracking news from research organisations that we fund and from companies that are building on NERC-funded research
Support communication of outcomes evidence produced by the team, for example via the website and internal newsletters
Respond to requests for impact evidence in a timely manner, exercising judgement to provide the most relevant evidence
Manage the team’s shared mailbox, and maintain the team’s evidence database and internal SharePoint site
