Manages and leads a Retail Design team in the execution of real estate strategic initiatives and capital plans to deliver on business and financial goals. Plans and designs exterior and interior spaces within retail and commercial buildings to meet business requirements, brand vision and in accordance with environmental, safety, or other regulations to minimize adverse environmental impact and maximize energy conservation. Governs and evolves Retail Design Guidelines used across the retail portfolio to support the current vision, strategy, and operation of the Bank’s physical channels (i.e. branches and ATMs), engage customers, and meet their needs. Acts as a consultant to translate business requirements into physical premises. Works with third party designers and architects to design facilities from concept to execution, including building and interior architecture, detailing furniture and fixtures, and selecting finishes and materials.

Conducts independent analysis and assessment to resolve strategic issues.

Recommends business priorities, advises on resource requirements, and develops roadmap for strategic execution.

Acts as the prime subject matter expert for internal/external stakeholders.

Leads the execution of operational programs; assesses and adapts as needed to ensure quality of execution.

Leads/supports contract negotiations with vendors, balancing cost, risk, and performance.

Prepares scale drawings or architectural designs using computer-aided design and related tools.

Prepares information required for design, structure specifications, materials, colour, equipment, estimated costs, or construction time.

Integrates engineering elements into unified architectural designs.

Consults with clients to determine functional or spatial structural requirements.

Develops final construction plans that include aesthetic representations of the structure or details for its construction.

Conducts periodic on-site observations of construction work to monitor compliance with plans.

Monitors the work of specialists (e.g. electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, interior designers, sound specialists) to ensure optimal form / function of designs or structures.

Plans layouts of structural architectural projects.

Performs predesign services, such as feasibility or environmental impact studies.

Inspects proposed building sites to determine suitability for construction.

Operates at a group/enterprise-wide level and serves as a specialist resource to senior leaders and stakeholders.

Applies expertise and thinks creatively to address unique or ambiguous situations and to find solutions to problems that can be complex and non-routine.

Implements changes in response to shifting trends.

Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications:

Typically 7+ years of relevant and progressive experience leading design teams and delivering design management support to a portfolio across North America.

Post-secondary degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or an equivalent combination of education and experience with related certification (e.g. OAA, CACB, AIA, NCIDQ, ARIDA, CIDA) is required.

Project Management Professional (PMP) certification optional but not required.

LEED Accredited Professional designation optional but not required.

Ability to create floor plans based on industry standard programs (e.g. AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, Photoshop, Illustrator, email, PowerPoint).

Thorough understanding of building and related codes and accessibility guidelines for North America.

Excellent experience with architecture and/or interior design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.

Thorough knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in building construction and repair.

Strong knowledge of the principles and processes for customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluating customer satisfaction.

Seasoned professional with a combination of education, experience and industry knowledge.

Salary:

$94,600.00 - $176,000.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
