Job Title: Supervisor II, System Quality

Reports to: Quality Manager

Locations: Phoenix, Arizona (555 N 55th Ave Building B Phoenix, AZ 85004)

Summary

The System QA Supervisor is responsible for overseeing overall quality operations within ESS Link manufacturing, including manufacturing quality, Incoming Quality Control (IQC), Outgoing Quality Control (OQC), inspection laboratory operations, and quality operations personnel management.

This position ensures that quality inspections and verification activities are performed in accordance with established standards and procedures, leads timely responses and escalation of quality concerns, and supports manufacturing quality stabilization and continuous improvement initiatives.

The System QA Supervisor is also responsible for developing and managing quality operations personnel, including System QA Technicians, IQC Inspectors, OQC Inspectors, and other assigned quality personnel, while establishing and maintaining an effective quality operating system within a startup manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

1. Team Leadership & Personnel Management

Lead and manage daily activities of quality operations personnel, including System QA Technicians, IQC Inspectors, OQC Inspectors, and other assigned quality team members

Coordinate staffing assignments, shift coverage, and daily workload priorities

Manage attendance, performance, qualifications, training records, and skill development activities

Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching to improve team capability

Support hiring, onboarding, and training of new quality personnel

Promote a culture of accountability, ownership, teamwork, and quality excellence

Drive consistency of quality performance across all shifts and work groups

2. Manufacturing Quality Operations

Oversee quality activities throughout ESS Link manufacturing operations

Manage and support in-line inspection activities

Ensure compliance with quality standards, inspection criteria, and work instructions

Lead initial response and escalation activities for manufacturing quality issues

Support containment, segregation, and disposition of non-conforming products

Support QRQC and other shop-floor quality improvement activities

Drive manufacturing quality stabilization initiatives

3. Incoming Quality Control (IQC) Operations

Oversee Incoming Quality Control operations

Manage incoming material and component inspection activities

Review inspection results and assess quality risks

Support containment and disposition activities for non-conforming materials

Lead initial response and escalation of supplier-related quality concerns

Maintain IQC inspection processes, procedures, and standards

4. Outgoing Quality Control (OQC) Operations

Oversee Outgoing Quality Control operations

Manage final quality verification activities prior to shipment

Support shipment hold and release processes

Ensure outgoing products meet customer and organizational quality requirements

Review OQC inspection results and quality performance trends

Support resolution of outgoing quality concerns and continuous improvement activities

5. Inspection Laboratory Operations

Manage daily operations of IQC and OQC inspection laboratories

Monitor inspection equipment condition and operational readiness

Coordinate calibration schedules and equipment maintenance activities

Maintain laboratory procedures, inspection standards, and operating practices

Ensure laboratory safety and 5S compliance

Support continuous improvement of laboratory effectiveness and efficiency

6. Quality Issue Management & Continuous Improvement

Lead investigations and response activities related to quality concerns

Coordinate cross-functional teams to identify root causes and implement corrective actions

Monitor effectiveness of containment and corrective actions

Analyze quality data, trends, and performance indicators

Track and report quality KPIs

Support quality improvement projects and initiatives

Drive preventive actions and verify long-term effectiveness

7. Audits & Quality System Support

Conduct and support Layered Process Audits (LPA)

Support internal audit activities and quality system compliance

Verify adherence to quality procedures, standards, and requirements

Maintain quality records and documentation

Support continuous improvement of quality management systems and processes

8. Cross-Functional Collaboration

Collaborate closely with Production, Manufacturing Engineering, Process Engineering, Supply Chain, EHS, and Quality Engineering teams

Support quality stabilization activities for new processes and production lines

Communicate quality concerns, risks, and performance updates to management and stakeholders

Support customer and external partner quality activities as required

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required

Associate Degree preferred

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or a related field preferred

Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered

Experience

Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment

Minimum 2 years of leadership or supervisory experience

Experience managing hourly employees and quality operations personnel

Experience supporting manufacturing quality operations

Experience with quality inspection organizations and quality control activities

Experience with non-conforming material management, escalation processes, and corrective actions

Experience with IQC, OQC, or inspection laboratory operations preferred

Experience in ESS, battery manufacturing, automotive, electrical assembly, industrial equipment, or similar manufacturing industries preferred

Startup manufacturing experience preferred
