About the role

Why this role

You'll work on the EAA A-2 Reservoir, the largest heavy civil infrastructure project in Florida and a cornerstone of Everglades restoration. As a Geotechnical Engineer supporting the District team, you'll help compile the Geotechnical and Materials Completion Report (GMCR) for the 11A and 11B construction contracts — documenting the as-built geotechnical work on a federal Major Project that will be referenced for decades. Most projects of this scale sit in remote locations that pull you away from home for weeks at a time. This one is in Palm Beach County: a daily drive, home every night, and we cover the vehicle.

Who we're looking for

A geotechnical engineer who can do the analysis and write it up cleanly. This role is documentation-heavy by design — you'll spend your time interpreting instrumentation and materials data, then producing clear, defensible technical narrative that holds up to USACE review. Two years in geotechnical engineering, a sharp eye for detail, and genuinely strong technical writing are what make someone successful here. Strong writers who can also run the numbers are rare; that's exactly who we want.

What you'll own

Compile, organize, and interpret geotechnical and materials data across the 11A and 11B contracts: instrumentation readings, boring and foundation records, fill placement and compaction QA/QC, and laboratory test results

Draft and revise GMCR sections in accordance with ER 1110-1-1901, producing clear technical narrative that documents the as-built geotechnical work

Work daily alongside the senior geotechnical engineer and coordinate with the District team, contractors, and field staff

Conduct field observation at active construction areas, including verification, monitoring, and sampling as needed

Maintain accurate, well-organized project documentation and supporting records

Support technical analysis, QA review, and resolution of documentation gaps

First 90 days success looks like

Up to speed on the 11A and 11B contract scope, history, and the GMCR structure under ER 1110-1-1901. Independently drafting report sections for senior-engineer review. Comfortable navigating the project's instrumentation and materials datasets. Established working relationships across the District team, field crews, and contractor QA staff.

Required

BS in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (ABET-accredited)

2+ years geotechnical engineering experience

Strong technical writing — this role is built around producing clear, defensible documentation that holds up to USACE review

Comfort with geotechnical data analysis: instrumentation, materials testing, compaction and density records

Willingness and ability to work on-site daily at South Bay, FL (trailer office plus field as needed)

Able to work 50+ hours per week during active project phases

Authorization to work in the U.S. for any employer on a long-term basis, without current or future need for employer-sponsored work authorization (TEC does not provide visa sponsorship, including OPT-to-H-1B conversions)

Reliable commute to the project site at South Bay, FL 33493

Preferred

PE license (FL, or eligible for comity) — meaningful comp upside

Experience with dam, levee, reservoir, or large embankment / earthwork projects

Familiarity with geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring programs (piezometers, inclinometers, settlement plates)

What TEC offers

Total estimated compensation $120,000 – $160,000, inclusive of overtime, commensurate with experience and licensure

Overtime available upon authorization on an active federal project
