At Motorola Solutions we are helping solve some of the biggest challenges around safety and physical security by developing advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and products that are used to help keep people, businesses, and cities around the world safer. Motorola Solution's Video Division designs, develops, and manufactures advanced AI, video analytics, network video management software and hardware, surveillance cameras, and access control solutions that help change the way people interact with their security systems.

Our co-ops don’t wash cars or do coffee runs. They also don’t work on side projects off to the side. Our co-ops are treated like full team members and are given the opportunity to learn what being a mechanical designer is like in the real world. You’ll also have a lot of fun and make a lot of friends. For the duration of your work term, you will be a member of a multi-disciplinary engineering team responsible for the design and implementation of the next generation of Motorola’s market-leading high-performance video solutions products.

Responsibilities include:

Use of 3-D modeling software to design parts, assemblies and mechanisms using a variety of materials and fabrication technologies

Estimation of work and cost required to complete proposed tasks and creating and maintaining progress reports

Creation of detailed production-quality fabrication drawings, design documentation, and assembly drawings for new and existing parts

Specification and development of design, prototyping, and test tools or fixtures

Mechanical Testing of products and report creation

Support related activities such as creating and releasing changes, maintaining Engineering workshop etc.

Qualifications:

Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to produce clear, concise documentation

Self-motivated with the ability to learn quickly and independently and work within a team

A demonstrated pragmatic approach to problem solving

3-D modelling experience – preferably with SolidWorks

Ability to design for manufacture

Ability to implement designs that are ergonomic and aesthetically pleasing

Preference will be given to candidates with the following skills and experience:

Knowledge of material properties, manufacturing techniques, adhesives, coatings and fasteners

Familiarity with optics or photographic techniques

Hands on fabrication experience using various manufacturing processes (Drilling, Milling, Lathe etc..)

Target Base Salary Range: 38,000 - 63,000 CAD
