Programme Test Manager (Workday)
About the role
Overview:
You will direct and manage the full project-life cycle and set standards for assignments and applications, with a primary focus on Workday implementations. This role requires extensive, hands-on experience delivering Workday programmes, including deep involvement in configuration, integrations, and end-to-end testing strategy.
You will be responsible for the delivery of defined work packages to the client, providing effective leadership to teams and offering expert guidance to key business users, ensuring quality outcomes across all phases of Workday deployment and optimisation.
Responsibilities:
Develop strategies and direct teams with diverse scope, ensuring alignment to Workday programme objectives
Ensure that project deliverables are completed within agreed cost, timescale, and resource budgets, and are formally signed off
Use project planning tools and contribute to the identification and planning of future resource needs, particularly for Workday delivery capabilities
Own the overall test plan design and processes for Workday implementations, applying, articulating, and constructing business-specific end-to-end scenarios; define standards for test script development, deployment, and reuse
Specify the test environment for full lifecycle testing, ensuring alignment with Workday business processes and integration requirements
Consult with key business stakeholders to ensure Workday solution design is optimised for testability and quality outcomes
Allocate and coordinate test schedules, work, and resource plans; manage progress of all activities against the plan, ensuring delivery deadlines are met across Workday programmes
Provide quality assurance evaluation estimates on various projects, with the ability to execute the vision, goals, and direction of Workday-focused teams
Diagnose problems and probe underlying issues to generate multiple potential solutions within Workday environments
Proactively anticipate and prevent issues, facilitating stakeholder buy-in and guiding the implementation of corrective and/or preventative actions for complex Workday-related challenges
Create quality assurance procedures and user instructions to support reusable processes and tools aligned to Workday delivery models
Define and implement quality process improvements and metrics with a focus on defect prevention in Workday programmes
Advise on risk assessment and risk management strategies at project or release level, particularly for Workday implementations
Contribute to proof of concept exercises and support sales with pre-sales collateral, bringing strong Workday domain expertise
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field, or equivalent work experience
ISTQB Advanced advantageous
Additional course or certification in Quality Assurance
Project Management qualification
Essential skills:
Proven senior-level QA leadership on large-scale Workday implementations
Extensive hands-on experience with Workday implementation projects (mandatory), including configuration, integrations, and deployment phases
Strong knowledge of Workday architecture and configuration to support risk-based testing approaches
Demonstrated experience testing Workday integrations with end-to-end data validation
Expertise in defining and executing Workday-specific test strategies, including SIT, UAT, regression, security, and data migration testing
Track record of building and leading Workday QA teams, upskilling testers, and establishing Workday QA best practices
Strong collaboration with Workday Functional, Integration, and Client stakeholders to align quality outcomes with business objectives
Experience in defect governance and quality reporting within Workday programmes, including root-cause analysis and executive-level reporting
Experience introducing QA tools, automation approaches, or process improvements suited to Workday’s configuration-driven model
