About the role
Sedgman is looking for an intermediate Structural Designer to join our team in the Vancouver, BC. office. The ideal candidate will have experience in producing 2D drawings and 3D models of steel and concrete structures used in mining (such as conveyor galleries, crusher stations, process plants and building structures).
This individual translates conceptual designs from structural engineers into constructable technical plans that meet safety standards, structural engineering principles, and industry codes. They will work closely with multi-disciplinary teams (mechanical, civil, and electrical) on EPCM projects, and will be involved in the entire design process.

What does this role involve? Main Responsibilities:
Produce accurate detailed structural drawings (plans, elevations, sections) and 3D models using Autodesk Advance Steel, AutoCAD, or other industrial software .
Develop detailed designs for structural steelwork, reinforced concrete, and foundations for both underground and surface mining infrastructure.
Coordinate with mechanical and electrical teams to resolve conflicts, performing clash detection of models in software like Navisworks.
Ensure designs comply with applicable mining safety codes, regional building codes, and company quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) requirements.
Review vendor equipment drawings and conduct field visits to verify measurements, assess existing structures, or support construction activities.
Prepare bills of materials (BOM), list structural components, and compute engineering data for fabrication and cost estimation.
Focus on meeting expectations for schedule, quality and client satisfaction.
Participate in the review of designs and advise on technical drafting difficulties or compliance requirements as appropriate
Comply with the Change Management process for engineering design
Upkeep of drawing list and percentage complete status
Understand Sedgman standard specifications and typical/standard drawings to reflect current industry standards
What are we looking for in our future team member? Qualifications:
Associate Diploma in CAD / or any other formal training certificates
Must have 5 – 7 years’ experience in structural drafting, with specific experience in the mining industry, and/or engineering consulting firm.
Ability to take an engineering concept and convert it into a 3D design
High proficiency in AutoCAD 3D is essential; experience with Autodesk Revit, Navisworks or Tekla Structures considered an asset.
Strong understanding of steel connection detailing, concrete foundations, and structural steel standards.
Strong attention to detail; Exceptional precision in checking drawings for errors
Skills in MS Office Suite

Salary Range : $87,000 - $112,000
The salary offered to the successful person for this position will consider education, experience, relevant skills and capability, geographic location and market conditions at the time of hire.
