About the role
About the Team
The Tax team is evolving from a traditional compliance and provision function into a data-driven, AI-first operating model. We are building systems where complex tax work is structured, repeatable, scalable, and continuously improved through better data, workflows, and intelligent tooling.
This team sits at the intersection of tax technical expertise, operating model design, data systems, and AI-enabled operations. Our goal is to reduce manual work, reduce reliance on institutional knowledge, improve auditability, and create faster, higher-quality tax insights for the business.
About the Role
As a Senior Manager, Tax Operations, you will help build and scale the tax infrastructure supporting complex business tax operations, strategic transactions, and forecasting.
This is not a traditional provision or compliance role. Instead of primarily preparing returns or managing external advisors, you will help own and operationalize highly technical tax workstreams that are critical to the company’s growth and long-term scalability.
This role is designed for someone who can operate at the intersection of technical federal tax, transaction execution, partnership mechanics, forecasting, and scalable process design.
You will help build repeatable frameworks around areas such as consolidation rules, tax attributes, purchase accounting tax impacts, legal entity management, partnership capital account management, and multi-year tax forecasting. This role is ideal for a tax professional who wants to move beyond maintaining existing processes and instead help design the future operating model for complex tax operations.
This position is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.
IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:
- Support M&A tax integration workstreams, including post-close tax integration and related operational requirements.
- Analyze and operationalize tax implications associated with acquisitions, restructurings, and other strategic business initiatives
- Support federal tax infrastructure across consolidated rules, tax attributes, structural modeling, basis related considerations, and partnership taxations.
- Build scalable workflows and controls around complex technical tax areas that historically rely on manual tracking or institutional knowledge
- Develop and support multi-year tax forecasting and scenario modeling related to business changes and long-term planning needs.
- Partner closely with Tax, Controllership, StratFin, and external advisors to ensure technical tax conclusions are translated into operational execution
- Use AI tools, primarily OpenAI technologies, to accelerate research, documentation, workflow design, review processes, and technical analysis
- Improve operational tracking systems, moving away from fragmented spreadsheet-based processes toward scalable and auditable frameworks
- Identify inefficiencies and redesign workflows to improve accuracy, speed, scalability, and operational resilience
WE’RE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WITH:
- 8+ years of experience in U.S. federal income tax, M&A tax, partnership tax, or complex tax operations.
- Strong technical understanding of:
- Federal consolidated return rules
- Tax attributes and limitation mechanics
- M&A and restructuring tax considerations
- Partnership taxation and capital account mechanics
- Structural tax modeling and operational tax infrastructure.
- Familiarity with concepts such as:
- Section 382
- SRLY
- NUBIG/NUBIL
- Attribute utilization and tracking
- Legal entity restructuring impacts.
- Experience supporting M&A transactions, restructuring projects, or post-close integration workstreams.
- Demonstrated ability to improve processes, not just execute technical analysis.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to reason through ambiguous technical tax issues.
- Comfort operating in fast-moving environments where structure may not yet fully exist.
- Ability to connect technical tax analysis with operational, compliance, forecasting, and reporting implications.
- Strong communication skills with ability to explain technical tax concepts to non-tax stakeholders.
- Comfort working outside traditional spreadsheet-heavy workflows toward scalable and system-based solutions.
- Curiosity around AI and automation as core components of modern tax operations.
- Builder mentality with interest in creating scalable systems and infrastructure rather than maintaining fragile manual processes.
